Well, last week, we ventured to organize and complete something we had never had to worry about before in our vineyard...HARVEST! Now, it's obviously something we have been looking forward to for 3 years, and I have to say, it was a lot of fun!
We are selling our grapes to one winery this year, and are tentatively scheduling to pick our varieties as they are ready in our vineyard, and the winery is ready to utilize them. There is a bit of bending on both schedules to allow us to not lose volume or quality on our end, as well as giving them the wait time needed to receive a quality grape and coordinate with their other grapes they will be processing.
So, we harvested two of our varieties last weekend...our Brianna and our Frontenac Gris. We had 9 rows to pick, and called up our family and friends to help us out....and did they ever! We had our cousins come down from St. Paul, our neighbor and friend brought their Gator to help transport grapes from our vineyard to the shop, and our family and friends came to volunteer their time to a grape fork!
So, we have to throw out a HUGE thank you to Bob and Betty, Tom and Alice, Michael, Joy, Chase and Julia, Clayton, my parents, my hubby, and of course my two kiddos, who were as patient as any 3 and 2-year-old could be!
Our next shift for harvesting is tentatively set for the weekends of Sept. 10th and 11th and Sept. 17th and 18th, so if you're itching to pick some Glyn Mawr grapes, we could certainly utilize your help! Please call my mom or I or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org! Enjoy the harvest pics!
